Description The Department of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Maintenance Worker II position. About the Opportunity The Maintenance Worker II will provide leadership in maintaining the interior and exterior appearance of institutional buildings. This work involves adhering to established standard procedures, techniques, and safety requirements with some judgment required to interpret instructions. Must be very familiar with interpreting event diagrams and completing set-ups as required What You'll Do: Provide leadership and coordination of all assignments for events in the Mountainlair facilities on the Downtown campus. Leadership to include decision-making responsibilities for the various events taking place as well as providing assistance to individuals with special needs to ensure their comfort. Provide leadership for setting up staging, dance floors, and various styles of tables and seating along with knowledge to provide general and special cleaning needs. Functions as a team leader in the cleaning and maintenance of the interior and surrounding exterior appearance of all buildings performing duties associated with a Campus Service Worker position; ensuring supplies and materials are adequately stocked throughout the buildings by inventorying supply areas and completing requisitions for submission to supervisor for additional supplies; notifying supervisor of classroom furniture, equipment, and facilities needing repair or replacement and of potential safety/fire violations by completing the proper maintenance order, location, and interpretation of Material Safety Data Sheets. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely manner and to ensure proper quality and quantity. Also monitors and directs the work of the custodial staff that indirectly report to him or her. Monitors multiple simultaneous events in the Mountainlair. Inspects completed work assignments of Campus Service Workers to ensure quality control. Receives work orders. Interfaces with all supervisors, managers, and requesting party to finalize needs and scope. Communicates work schedules and goals to employees and customer, creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks. Provides continual inspection of assigned area to ensure assigned work is completed on schedule; recommends to the supervisor major repair needs; assists supervisor in updating deferred maintenance. Recommends to the supervisor as to crew size, materials availability, and equipment in order to maintain schedule. Must be able to operate computers utilizing various software programs such as: Facilities Management maintenance management programs involving work orders and materials accountability, building support systems and other systems as necessary. Cleans and maintains the interior appearance of the Mountainlair including classrooms, offices, public areas, etc. by sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets, rugs and upholstery; dusting and polishing furniture; washing and cleaning walls, ceilings, doors, windows, etc.; and performing other related internal cleaning activities.
