Pay: 40,000 Annual Salary

JOB RESPONSIBLITY: Responsible for the management of well-rounded recreation programs, student leadership and incentive programs in compliance with government and management directives. Reports to the recreation manager. Directly supervises designated recreation advisors.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  1. Assist in planning, coordinating and supervising the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.

  2. Evaluate staff performance, provide staff training and recommend department and personnel changes to the manager, recreation.

  3. Assist the manager, recreation in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures.

  4. Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting recreation programs.

  5. Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

  6. Instruct students in specific on and off center recreation.

  7. Counsel and motivate students regarding behavior, training, personal and/or work habits and problems; coordinate with counselors and others as necessary.

  8. Conduct a variety of well-planned recreation activities including arts and crafts, water safety programs, individual and team sports, special interest programs and others.

  9. Develop and distribute weekly, monthly and annual recreational/avocational plans and schedules of activities.

  10. Control use of equipment and supplies; make minor repairs and recommend purchases.

  11. Organize special activities; maintain and develop liaisons with community organizations providing recreational opportunities and facilities.

  12. Provide information regarding special and scheduled activities.

  13. Coordinate the new student recreation orientation program.

  14. Coordinate, conduct and monitor the center's "ROPES" program.

  15. Monitor the student store and snack bar operation.

  16. Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.

  17. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.

  18. Participate in student employability programs and activities.

  19. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps' Zero Tolerance Policy.

  20. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

  21. Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.

  22. Have a basic understanding of the MYPACE program and its role in a student's transition plan.

  23. Assist with MYPACE activities/lessons as needed and appropriate.

  24. Provide support as needed with an individual student's MYPACE plan follow through and activities.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate of arts degree preferred or one year of related experience working with youth.

  • One year supervisory experience.

  • Must obtain CDL permit within 90 days and commercial license within 150 days of employment.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and computer proficiency also required.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
