In this position you will provide advanced technical work in planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining electronic equipment, software, hardware, and networks for communication, automation, safety and security for the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Moose Lake.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide electronic systems support of building and perimeter security equipment and communications equipment and systems. This involves assisting in the specification and selection of electronic equipment and systems, and installing, configuring/calibrating, maintaining and repairing electronic equipment/systems.

  • Maintain and provide systems support to the Physical Plant Local Area Network (LAN) for building automation, security, and communication systems.

  • Install, repair, and maintain all electronic/mechanical control of door access systems including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with integration of door access, door alarms, camera call up, intercom, cell utilities and elevators.

  • Establish and maintain an electronic repair shop complete with necessary test equipment, tools, and electronic components and supplies so electronic equipment problems can be corrected immediately.

  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for existing equipment so that unexpected breakdowns are kept to a minimum.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.   • Power Limited Technician license OR ability to obtain this licensure within the probationary period. ( PLEASE NOTE: If the successful candidate does not currently have a Power Limited Technician license, they will be required to register as an unlicensed individual prior to hire and will perform work in accordance with M.S. 326B.33.)

  • Three years work experience in installing, calibrating, configuring, maintaining and repairing electronics equipment. Two of the three years of work experience must have been obtained within the last ten years. ( PLEASE NOTE: Completion of a one year vocational/technical program in electronics technology or a related field may be substituted for six months of work experience. Completion of a two year vocational/technical program (e.g. Associate in Applied Science degree) in electronics technology or a related field may be substituted for one year of work experience.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, test equipment, and tools used to construct, install, calibrate, configure, troubleshoot, repair and maintain complex electronics equipment sufficient to assure safe, efficient and reliable equipment operation.

  • Basic knowledge of computer network administration sufficient to install and configure computer hardware and software; troubleshoot hardware, software and network problems; and assign user passwords and appropriate levels of access.

  • Skills in using a personal computer and software tools to troubleshoot electronics equipment and computer network problems for building, security and communication systems.

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot, identify and correct problems with computer software and hardware and electronics equipment through computer diagnosis and/or with electronics test equipment and by implementing software and hardware modifications and electronics repairs.

  • Ability to perform routine programming using computer software that controls electronic security devices.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions sufficient to independently carry out required installation, maintenance and repair.

  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical information and effectively communicate technical information to non-technical staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electronics experience in a correctional or secured environment, including experience with security systems, doors, video cameras and video recorders.

Physical Requirements
