Purpose

Nucor Rebar Fabrication is seeking a Field Safety Coordinator for the Midwest which includes Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky.

The Field Safety Coordinator supports Operations on the implementation of the Nucors Safety Program at the Branch and Jobsite(s) and promotes a positive safety culture with a target for zero incidents. The Safety Coordinator would also be responsible for conducting safety training, performing safety audits, investigating safety issues and ensuring compliance with Nucor Injury and Illness Prevention Program and other safety initiatives, contractors safety programs and all applicable federal and provincial regulations applicable to safety.

Basic Job Functions:

  • Act as a resource for safety-related issues supporting the Branch and Field Operations

  • Monitor compliance with legislated standards

  • Provide job hazard analysis through personal observation and conduct daily workplace inspections

  • Take corrective action if a safety concern is observed

  • Conduct company safety training and orientation sessions for all new employees

  • Establish Mentorship Program and ensure follow up for New Teammates (30, 60 & 90 days).

  • Work with JHSCs on audits, program reviews, etc. and help to develop topics and other agenda items for the JHSC meetings

  • Participate in setting Branch safety goals and strategies establish measurement and adjust as needed for the successful safety performance of each branch

  • Prepare content and ensure regular Toolbox and Safety Meetings are conducted as per Nucors Safety Program requirements.

  • Inspect facilities/sites, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety regulation compliance

  • Conduct safety and compliance inspections according to a defined schedule

  • Spot check all Logs, sign off sheets, and other required and regulatory documentation

  • Maintain a Safety Inspection and Auditing Program.

  • Assist branch in performing Annual safety reviews, PPE assessments, equipment certifications, etc.

  • Support Regional and Branch Specific Safety Action Plans

  • Coordinate with claims representatives, within the company, related to WCB claims and communication requirements.

  • Coordinate Return to work programs in conjunction with the Field Operations and Nucor Claims Department.

  • Ensure Reporting and other Regulatory Requirements are met for all injuries and near misses

  • Utilize Intelex to ensure all health and safety matters are documented and completed promptly

  • Support the management of information, records, and resources for the Safety and Health Program

  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of construction safety & health experience

  • A valid Drivers License is required

  • Previous field experience

  • Working Knowledge of all Provincial OHS Legislation

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills are a must

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-starter, motivated to take a lead role concerning health and safety.

  • Comfortable in a manufacturing environment

  • Refined problem-solving skills

  • NCSO with ACSA would be an asset

Physical Demands

  • Typical office and construction site activities

  • Walking, sitting, standing, bending, climbing ladders and scaffold towers

  • Using hands to operate objects, tools computers and electronic equipment

  • Lifting/handling (typically not more than 25 pound)

  • Working conditions can be noisy/ dusty/ hot/ cold

Special Demands

  • Must be able to work overtime when required

  • Shift work may be required to meet with teammates on other shifts

  • Work from remote camp
