Eaton Corporation Lead Firmware Engineer in Moon Township, Pennsylvania

Eaton’s Power Components Division is currently seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer. This position is located at our Moon Township, PA (Pittsburgh) location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $91500.03 - $134200.04 a year.

What you’ll do:

We are seeking an innovative problem-solver to design firmware for electronic trip units used in circuit breakers for the Power Components Division. You will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic global team to design and improve trip units and their capabilities. You will work with a team of dedicated engineers and experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to production launch.

The Lead Firmware Engineer will design and develop embedded software for Eaton’s family of circuit breakers. This includes creating functionality related to hardware drivers, protection, metering, communication, power electronics, and user interface.

  • Performs firmware design and testing tasks for trip unit embedded electronics.

  • Plans work in detail at individual level, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team, including requirement definition and issue tracking.

  • Reviews own work as well as others in formal design and quality reviews.

  • Tests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals.

  • Develops a high level of technical expertise in embedded software design and over time becomes a SME for trip unit functionality.

  • Provides domain expertise to product support personnel to solve field issues.

  • Performs and contributes to technical research and investigations.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience developing embedded software for electronic devices

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Experience with embedded firmware in 8 bit through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC)

  • Proficiency in C/C++ Experienced in code sharing tools and multi-person development

  • Experience with Real-time Operating systems (RTOS)

  • Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bring-up

  • Experience in using Digital Oscilloscope and logic analyzers

  • Experience in using defect tracking systems and code repository

  • Experience leading development efforts

Skills:

  • Ability to read schematics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of and experience with project tracking tools such as Jira and JAMA
