Overview

Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity as a Maintenance Mechanic I. This position has a well-defined career ladder within BGS.

As part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team you will work as part of a group and independently. This position serves the Capital District in Montpelier, which includes the state house and many historic buildings. The Maintenance Mechanic I will work primarily on grounds and outdoor maintenance. This position will also be asked to assist with other duties as assigned including but not limited to; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and lock repair.

This is a full-time position, and the hours are 6am to 2:30pm. The position requires a valid driver\'s license and succesful completion of a background check.

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is a diverse organization with over 340 employees serving state agencies and departments within state Government. BGS provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their missions. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed at state buildings and may include correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. May require possession of a valid driver\'s license. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
