*Job Summary*

As a Mechanical Engineer at BPMI, you will be responsible for project engineering duties requiring technical cognizance of nuclear plant components and related servicing equipment as well as simulation-based Navy training equipment.

*Essential Duties:*

 

 

  • Project engineering responsibilities requiring technical cognizance of nuclear plant components and related servicing equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, detectors, breakers, refueling equipment) as well as simulation-based Navy training equipment (propulsion plant and engine room team trainers).
  • Functions encompass the following: review and approval of supplier and BPMI/Naval Nuclear Laboratory designs; specification preparation; preparation of budgets and cost estimates, and conducting technical negotiations through purchase order placement; establishment of component testing requirements; engineering follow of supplier efforts through component manufacturing, testing, and delivery phases; evaluation of fleet data and resolution of operational equipment field issues, including technical manual development; extensive communications with customer, supplier, and shipyard personnel.

*Minimum Job Requirements:*

 

 

 

 

  • Bachelor, Bachelor of Science, or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience. An advanced degree may be considered in lieu of some year(s) of experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for newer college graduates.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

*Preferred Requirements:*

 

 

 

 

  • Experience in project engineering or design engineering with some experience or familiarity in one or more of the following areas: manufacturing, welding, specification preparation, structural analysis, fluid flow, mechanical design, vibration analysis, or field support.
  • Effective technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving capabilities.

BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers. In addition, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components in support of refueling and overhaul activities, and aids in the ultimate storage and disposition of spent naval fuel.
