ATI Environmental Service Technician in Monroe, North Carolina

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  1. Operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)
  • Backup Operator in Responsible Charge (BORC) – Because the Monroe facility has NPDES and Pretreatment permits, this is a state-required position, which must be licensed through the state of North Carolina.

  • Analytical Sampling - Collect samples required by the Pretreatment permit. Also collect samples and perform analysis for daily in-house monitoring.

  • Treatment Chemical Management - Monitor treatment chemical storage tank levels and makes additions as necessary.

  • Used Oil Treatment and Recycling - Treat used oil and coolants from the Monroe & Bakers plants using various treatment technologies.

  • Maintenance – Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for the WWTP.

  • On Call – The Lead Environmental Technician or the Environmental Technician are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

  1. Cooling Towers (Critical for Melt operations and several other production operations.)

Chemically treat each cooling tower weekly, check for proper operation and check primary make-up water source (city/pond).

  1. Underground Storage Tank

Perform weekly check of the UST leak detection system, cathodic protection and interstitial piping in accordance with state regulations.

D. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit

  • Record daily pond discharge.

  • Operate and maintain the oil skimmer on the pond effluent and maintain a log of all maintenance items in accordance with the state issued NPDES Permit.

E. Spill Prevention, Containment and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC Plan)

Perform weekly inspection of potential sources of oil spills and maintain records in accordance with state requirements.

F. Universal Wastes

Collect and package Universal Wastes including fluorescent lightbulbs, mercury switches and Ni-Ca batteries.

G. Pond Water Cooling System (Critical system provides over 3 million gallons of cooling water per day for use in the Melt Shop and other critical operations.)

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pond water cooling system including the pumps, sand filters, valves, piping & controls (excluding plant piping).

  1. Hazardous, Special Industrial and General Wastes

Responsible for proper handling, storage and disposal of hazardous, special and general wastes for the Monroe Plant.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. Mechanical aptitude

  3. One year and up to including three years of experience

  4. Knowledge of environmental systems
