Role summary :

This role is for a member of a small team that is responsible for the development and maintenance of highly configurable products for the automatic door industry. A person for this role should be able to contribute independently and be comfortable expressing design concepts in a constructive group environment. This role is responsible but not limited to the research, design, prototype, testing, documentation, and industrialization support of both new products and large-scale updates to existing products. Our products require design engineers to have a strong capacity to analyze multiple options for possible interferences while the product goes through a range of sizes. This role will need to work with all aspects of supply chain, operations, and manufacturing to help deliver elegant and impactful designs. The goal of all projects is to minimize impact for the factory while maximizing value for the end user.

Responsibilities:

  • Researching and gathering voice of customer feedback on new projects

  • Creating designs for new products and/or update existing products

  • VAVE activities to low cost and total cost of ownership

  • Building physical prototypes in our engineering lab

  • Creating and executing test plans to validate new designs

  • Creating documentation packages for use in sourcing, operations, manufacturing, and field operations

  • Supporting operations and manufacturing through the industrialization of new designs

    Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar

    Experience, Knowledge, and Background:

  • 2+ years experience in product design

  • Strong 3D and 2D design software: Solidworks and Draftsight preferred

  • Hands-on experience in engineering lab or shop setting desired

  • Ability to use basic hand tools required, CNC or machining experience desired

  • Experience working with large multi-level BOMs and assemblies

  • PDM (Product Data Management) experience; Team Center preferred

  • Working knowledge of aluminum, steel, glass, and basic electronics

  • Tolerance Stack-up experience

  • Proficient in MS-Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint),

  • Advanced Excel skills; VBA and Macros a plus
