Overview

Summary

We are recruiting for a Farm Manager. This position responsible for recruiting new farmers, maintaining and supporting existing farmers, providing short and long-term projections, auditing to ensure farmers are compliant with company protocols and assisting in the contracting process.

  • Responsible for all aspects of farrowing and meeting weekly shipping targets of full-value pigs

  • Ensuring that ALL animals across the farm have received proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding on a daily basis

  • Assisting with all other aspects of the farm to ensure farm goals are met and tasks are completed on a daily basis

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee proper procedures are followed for Day-One pig care, fostering, etc.

  • Direct and manage processing of piglets in accordance with company procedures

  • Manage the care and necessary treatments of all sows in farrowing

  • Direct cleaning/bedding of farrowing pens; and oversee the cleaning and disinfecting of the farrowing room after weaning; and oversight of Patz barn cleaning system

  • Keep, communicate, and report accurate records on a daily basis through Maximus

  • Provide accurate weaned pig projections for scheduled shipments

  • Maintain correct temperature/ventilation settings, and that all associated equipment is in full working order

  • Responsible for onboarding, training, coaching, and reviewing all employees within the department

  • Maintain inventory and supply order list for the farm, including bedding, propane, etc.

  • Support and maintain a safe work environment and safety culture across the farm

  • Assist in Period Close inventory, cost analysis, and cost control

  • Any other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management/supervisor

Education and Experience Requirements

Education: B.S. degree in Animal Science or related field, OR minimum of one-year experience in straw-bedded pork production system/farrowing unit, OR minimum of two years’ experience in traditional pork production/farrowing unit.

Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to lead by example, and manage a team of 2-5 people

  • Ability to problem solve, be a critical thinker, goal oriented, and a team player

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs and have the ability to learn a web based database.

  • Must posses extremely skillful communication and organizational skills.

  • Maintain a valid driver's license.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand for several hours.

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Willing and able to work in wet and extreme cold or hot conditions.

  • Willing and able to work around dust, animals and various cleaning chemicals.

  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
