Job Information

CITY OF MOAB Umpire in MOAB, Utah

General Purpose

The individuals appointed to these positions will be required to umpire baseball games, keep score, and assist in the administration of games. Additionally, employees will be required to assist office staff as needed and perform other related duties as required.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision received: The Baseball/Softball Umpire works under the supervision of the Field Maintenance Supervisor and the Assistant Parks, Recreation & Trails Director.

Supervision Exercised: The Baseball/Softball Umpire provides general supervision and support for the baseball/softball participants.

Minimum Requirements
  • Knowledge of baseball rules, penalties, and hand signals which would demonstrate an ability to perform the job.
  • Physical ability needed to perform the duties of the job.
  • The ability to resolve conflicts and communicate effectively with supervisors, other employees, and the general public about softball/baseball and maintain control of the teams, coaches, and players is required.
  • Previous baseball or softball experience as a player, coach, or umpire preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Attend paid umpire training clinics. Learn and know how to administer the rules of baseball and softball. (*Passing a certification test results in a higher pay, position on field also effects pay.)
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time, dressed and ready to start games on time.
  • Wear appropriate clothing & protective gear as applicable (Most items provided)
  • Establish positive and appropriate communication with coaches and players.
  • Be consistent, fair, and firm in calls made.
  • Be available for evening and weekend games.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Outdoor activities will be required. Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.

Selection Guidelines
