Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to join our team in Mitchell, IN, and report directly to the Plant Manager.

What you’ll get to do

  • Actively participate in the development of the plant’s objectives and oversight of all aspects of daily plant production and maintenance activities, partnering with the Maintenance and Production Managers to optimize plant performance

  • Provide input into plant capital and operating plans and effectively manage budget costs. Assume full responsibility for the plant in the Plant Manager’s absence. Synchronize production activities with quarry, maintenance, process, and quality control activities to make certain that the plant is performing to highest standards

  • In coordination with Plant Management, plan, organize and oversee the annual plant maintenance shut down, ensuring that company maintenance initiatives are implemented

  • Collaborate with the plant staff to address operating methods, procedures, and opportunities associated with continuous improvement of production quality and efficiency.

  • Identify and address corresponding training needs of plant staff

  • Partner with plant Purchasing personnel regarding the purchase of major equipment such as kiln, clinker coolers, preheater refractory, etc.

  • Works with the plant Quality Control Department to meet product specifications and production goals

  • Ensure a healthy and safe work environment that is also compliant with company and regulatory requirements

  • In collaboration with Sales and Marketing stay abreast of customer requirements and concerns.

  • Determine and oversee the timely resolution of production or quality issues.

  • Participate in community activities to continually promote plant/community relations

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • At least 7 years of cement plant management experience, particularly leading one or more departments

  • Financial acumen, particularly plant related elements such as income statements, cost reports, capital and operating budgets, and forecasts

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills

  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills

  • Strong leadership skills with proven examples of improving employee engagement and performance

  • Computer literate, capable of effectively utilizing MS Office, SAP, and manufacturing related systems and applications

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience at multiple cement plants

  • Strong technical expertise, trainings, and certifications

Work Environment

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
