Aston Carter Financial Analyst in Mississauga, Ontario
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Finance Analyst, the Finance Analyst will be an integral part of the growing Finance team and will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate and comprehensive financial and investment performance reporting.
Role is 50% accounting and 50% Investment operations – finance.
Responsibilities & Activities
The person in this role will work closely with the Senior Finance Analyst and Controller – having responsibility for:
Reviewing transaction reports and other statements received from custodians, banks, fund administrators and fund managers to ensure that the transactions are accurately captured, classified and reconciled.
Maintaining the investment reporting system, including following workflows for updating prices / valuations, creating new accounts, assets and maintenance of various related data elements.
Keeping the investment research tool up-to-date and reconciled with the investment reporting systems
Maintaining up to date accounting records for all entities in the family office structures (ASPE) and foundations (ASNPO) including:
Updating the accounting system with the monthly investment portfolio transactions and reconciling the accounting and investment reporting system
Recording expenses and intercompany transactions, including monthly intercompany reconciliations with family office and operating companies
Posting bank transactions and performing bank reconciliations
Recording of contributions to the foundations and donation activities
Drafting financial statements
Providing the requisite data to the tax team to support tax filings
Assistance in preparation of monthly reporting packs
Assisting with setting up and maintaining bank and investment accounts, as well as other treasury activities
Validating vendor information and setting up payments and transfers
Working with the team to identify process efficiencies and implementing new processes
Assistance and hands-on involvement in various projects, as may be required

What You Need:
System: Addepar as the investment reporting system and Quickbooks / Sage as the accounting system. Experience with Quickbooks / Sage would be advantageous, but not mandatory.
Utmost integrity and discretion
University degree in Accounting & Finance or an ACCA
CA or CPA designation in progress
2+ years of work experience
Strong MS Excel skills
Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail
Proven ability to think strategically and to improve processes and strategies
Self-starter mindset, who is able to work both independently and as part of a small team
Interest in investment accounting, risk and performance measurement for investment portfolios
Ability to foster effective working relationships internally across the organization
Experience bookkeeping for multiple entities in a multi-currency environment
Experience working in the investment management, pension fund or financial services industry (either internally or as a service provider or consultant) would be an asset, but not required
