Position Title: Shipping Clerk-DC

Department: Shipping

Supervisor: Shipping Manager-DC

FLSA: Non-exempt (Paid by the hour)

Position Summary:

The Shipping Clerk is directly responsible for checking drivers in and out, planning picks, planning loads and processing outbound paperwork. Warehouse Management Systems experience, detail orientation, multi-tasking and accurate paperwork are critical to success in the role.

Essential Functions:

  • Understands the general function of a warehouse management system (WMS) and can follow work instructions well.

  • Ensure drivers are checked in timely and with professional communication.

  • Communicates and works well with the Shipping team.

  • Follows all safety procedures.

  • Plans picking and processes orders in the Warehouse Management System expediently, accurately and timely.

  • Plans outbound loads and processes them in the Warehouse Management System expediently, accurately and timely.

  • Ensures product has been audited before loading and is loaded on the correct outbound load

  • Ensures outbound loads meet optimal cube and weight requirements.

  • Accurately and efficiently compiles outbound manifests and scans into the system.

  • Communicates any potential shipping concerns to branches and works with them to resolve issues timely.

  • Escalates issues, Warehouse Management System problems and process opportunities to Assistant Branch Manager in a timely manner.

  • Makes sure that low stock/out of stock or other inventory related concerns are communicated to the Inventory Controller.

  • Performs additional duties, responsibilities and projects as assigned.

  • Supports Distribution Center cleanliness, organization and success.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum 1-year similar experience

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, vendors and buyers.

  • Ability to calculate figures, and amounts such as ti x hi, total cases per pallets and units per case

  • Computer Literate

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Commitment to company values and strong customer orientation.

  • Can use the general functions of a warehouse management system.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift/Carry Abilities (measured for maximum or average load)

  • Lift – 50 lbs

  • Carry strength (50’ or less) – 50 lbs

  • Frequent lift/carry (> 12x/hour) – 50 lbs

  • Constant lift/carry (> 30x/hr) – 20 lbs
