Quentin Burdick Job Corps Center (Human Learning Systems, LLC) Recreation Supervisor in Minot, North Dakota

The Recreation Supervisor position provides instructional support for a U.S. Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. Job Corps' mission is to educate and train youth ages 16-24 for successful careers in the nation's fastest-growing industries.

Summary of Duties:

The Recreation supervisor is responsible for monitoring and directing students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on- and off-center in compliance with government and management directives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assists students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification and acting as a mentor.
  • Responsible for the management of the department.
  • Oversees staff members assigned to this department.
  • Develops programs that promote productive and socially acceptable uses of leisure time.
  • Assists students in understanding and developing lifelong leisure time skills and habits.
  • Builds students self-esteem by developing teamwork, good sports conduct, and other positive social behaviors.
  • Develops and maintains a calendar of recreational activities and events, and distributes the schedule to students in advance of activities listed.
  • Ensures that recreational activities contain community service projects.
  • Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games such as volleyball, baseball, and basketball.
  • Instructs individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics, or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty of exercises, corrections needed, and prescribed movements.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises recreation, athletics, and special activities including games, sports, hiking, cultural events, dances, talent shows, and other leisure-time activities

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and related field plus supervisory experience in operating a youth athletic program.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check!
  • As a Federal Contractor, while North Dakota law may allow individuals to consume marijuana if they have a qualifying medical condition, marijuana is still illegal under federal law. A positive drug screen with a medical marijuana card will result in an offer not being made.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid state drivers license
  • CDL License preferred
