The Blake School Upper School Robotics Head Coach in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Descriptions:

The Blake School seeks to hire an Upper School Robotics Coach to collaborate with our current lead coach in providing leadership and management of an established robotics team (grade 9–12) participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). The ideal candidate will have a passion for coaching and engineering, as well as experience with or a desire to learn about the FRC program. We also value the ability to inspire bright, highly motivated students to collaborate with a team of adult mentors and volunteers and to ensure that the program invites participation from students whose identities are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields. This is a yearlong co-curricular position with practices after school and on weekends. The team meets approximately once a week throughout the fall and three times a week—including Saturdays—from January to March, during build season. Afternoon practices run from 3:30-5:30pm (days TBD). Compensation is a stipend commensurate with experience. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

The committee will begin reviewing applications immediately.

Required Experience:

  • Help students communicate, collaborate and manage time through design thinking problems

  • Support student captains who are ready to lead and plan events

  • Be available for practices, the timings for which will be decided by the coach (previously held on Tues/Thurs after school and 3-4 hours on weekends)

  • First aid certification required (assistance available)

  • Comfortable working with shop tools

  • Engineering background a bonus but not mandatory

Our robotics program is not just about machines and competitions; it's about creating a safe environment that fosters creativity, respect and growth. We believe in the potential of every student and the wonderful outcomes when they are given the right tools, guidance and opportunities.
