Major Duties Classification: Non-Exempt, Bargaining Has high degree of technical expertise, usually with a specialization in Repair and Installation of fiber optic transport equipment, IP based switches and routers, multiplexing equipment and IP based CPE services. Responsibilities Repairing of equipment problems associated with trouble reports and other equipment failures, including but not limited to, various transport systems, multiplexers, IP based switches and routers, and DC power systems. Tests, adjusts, and repairs equipment as necessary. Loads and tests new software loads. General Maintenance activities associated with alarming systems, transport systems, DACS systems and DC power systems as well as generator back-up systems. Repair and Install of Fiber Optic and Access Nodes. Installation and repair of Customer IP based System. Repair, Install, Test Ethernet Switches. Maintain, install and test the following : all transport based Customer Services and Circuits. Receives general guidance from management. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications 2 year electronics, communications technology degree or equivalent in experience. 2 to 4 years experience with Optical Network installation and/or maintenance. Practical knowledge of OTDR, light and power meters, DS3 & DS1 test equipment, and DWDM and CWDM. Knowledge to troubleshoot electronic systems and technical equipment Ability to lift heavy equipment, and work in small spaces. Valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record. Prefer candidates with a valid Limited Power Technician License. Candidate must live within or be willing to live within the physical location they report to. Other Information Physical Demands: Must be able to pass a phyisical standards test and have the ability to safely perform the following: Lift miscellaneous equipment from floor to waist at 25, 40 and 50 lbs. Installation of miscellaneous equipment lifting from waist to overhead at 25, 40 and 50 lbs. Lift battery packs 22"X11"5" floor to waist - from pallet to waist, carry 30 ft at 25, 42 and 70 lbs. Battery transportation - carry 25, 42 and 70 and 75 lbs two full flights of stairs Transportation of Test kit - suitcase carry - unilateral carry right and left 25, 40 and 50 lbs.
