This position serves our partners at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). MNIT MDE manages the technical functions critical to managing public education in Minnesota; supporting systems including funding disbursement and large-scale, public-facing school performance data reporting.

We are seeking a skilled SQL Database Developer to join our team. In this role, the Senior SQL Database Developer will be responsible for designing and implementing large and complex database systems, as well as supporting existing database and reporting systems. Your expertise will be crucial in leading the technical design of agency systems, business practices, and process automation efforts. This role will lead other IT professionals and collaborate with agency senior management to analyze business processes and recommend/design automation procedures to enhance operational efficiency.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of IT related experience in SQL database development and data analysis.

Experience must include:

  • SQL database schema skills including creating, alternation, and deletion of databases, tables, indexes, views, keys, etc.

  • Creating Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) programs for data warehouses and data marts.

  • Database development technology tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio for SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).

  • Database administration of Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with dimensional data modeling principles (Kimball methodology).

  • Designing, building, and querying Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) data cubes.

  • Experience documenting and presenting database architecture specifications, creating subtasks, and integrating code.

  • Leadership skills to organize development work effectively to meet project objectives in a timely manner.
