Overview

M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department at our East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN .

This role is a 0.625 FTE, 50 hours per pay period, 10 hour day shift (9am-7pm), every weekend. Fairview East Bank Hospital is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and offers the widest range of hospital and clinical services provided through the University of Minnesota Health. Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and the delivery of thousands of babies each year, to care of patients with the most sophisticated conditions. Our emergency team partners with the full spectrum of medical specialties and ancillary services including anesthesiology, intensive care, cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, radiology, rehabilitation and surgery. Areas of specialization include solid organ and blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease and cancer.

About this Unit:

Do you have a special curiosity about the Emergency Department? UMMC East Bank Emergency Department is a 28 bed Level 3 Trauma Center. We deliver care to about 80 patients per day and 30,000 patients annually. We offer a multidisciplinary approach to all emergencies and are cross-trained to the Observation Unit. Team members include Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Transport, and Case Managers. We provide prompt, quality care around the clock, when patients are faced with medical or behavioral emergencies.

Responsibilities Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

The registered nurse in the Emergency Department is responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations.

The scope of practice extends from a patient’s entry into the emergency room and continues from triage through discharge. Care is centered on patients and families experiencing acute or chronic, actual or potential physical or psychosocial problems. Unique to emergency nursing are processes that require resuscitation and/or stabilization

  • Triaging patients effectively according to policies, laws, and resources.

  • Using the nursing process to deliver care for any patients addressing the department. An individualized plan of care is developed in collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team to support the physical and emotional needs of a wide range of ill/ injured patients.

  • Prioritizing the care of multiple patients with varied presentations.

  • Initiating timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient.

  • Providing effective and timely patient/family education related to the treatment plan.

  • Recognizing and responds to subtle or rapid changes in patient status.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Current MN RN license

  • 1 year of RN Emergency Department, med/surg, or telemetry nursing experience

  • BLS for Health Care Providers

  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire

  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) and TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) will be required of all staff within the first year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of Emergency Department or critical care experience

  • BSN
