Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) department at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

The Mental Health Float Pool serves a wide spectrum of patients within the Behavioral Health department including children/adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Schedule: This position will be working a 0.6 FTE (48 hours ever two weeks) on the night shift. The shift length is 12 hours long and works every third weekend.

About our Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) department at the UMMC West Bank

  • The Team consists of about 30 RNs and 60 Psych Associates.

  • RN is responsible for providing comprehensive care to unstable/stable patients within the Behavioral Health department. Float pool RNs are able to demonstrate their flexibility in the work environment and prompt response to changes in workload and assignments, as they are trained to work on multiple different units and serve a wide variety of patients.

Responsibilities Job Description

As a Registered Nurse in the Behavioral Emergency Response Team department, you will be responsible for:

  • Utilizing a detailed process to assess the physical and mental health needs of the patient, which will provide a framework from which patient care is planned [knows disease processes, therapy, complications, expected outcomes for specific patient population(s)]

  • Contributing to the development of an individualized treatment plan in collaboration with the inter-disciplinary team providing a comprehensive plan of care.

  • Administering medications according to a policy used for the management of behavioral patients with knowledge of actions, contraindications, side effects, and desired outcomes.

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing interventions in meeting the identified emotional, psychological, and physical needs, making revisions based on these outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • 3-5 years of experience caring for patient with primary mental health and/or substance use disorder in an acute care setting (inpatient, ED, etc.

  • Current RN Licensure required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Additional Requirements :

  • BERT training to be completed prior to the end of orientation.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • De-escalation/Non-escalation Training

  • Workplace Conflict Management Training

  • BERT Training

  • Emergency Department

  • Mental Health and/or Chemical Dependence Units
