They will receive significant mentoring from the principal investigator and help to interview, recruit, and train future trainees and employees. * The successful candidate will work efficiently to master the scientific field, contribute positively to the scientific culture of the laboratory, and present their own data and analysis in formal and informal settings. They will be highly motivated to drive the field forward by generating data for and writing high-impact publications. * 91% Bench Research: Design a semi-independent research project and perform the core experimental work of the lab, with appropriate mentoring from the principal investigator. These tasks may involve, among other things, subcloning, cell culture, immunoblotting, and flow cytometry. Use critical thinking to thoroughly understand the goals and procedures necessary to complete assigned experiments. Independently troubleshoot issues that come up in experiments and use knowledge in molecular biology & immunology to support the direction and future aims of research projects assigned. Participate in regular lab meetings to report on data and explain scientific findings. * 3% General Lab Citizenship: Participate in lab organization, placing orders, and maintaining equipment. * 3% Mouse Colony Maintenance: If working on a project using mouse models: Participate in discussions of mouse colony maintenance, help to wean/breed project-specific mice. * 3% Training junior scientists: Eventually providing laboratory and scientific mentoring to junior trainees and, if you choose, undergraduate researcher(s). Qualifications Qualifications (describe in cover letter and CV/resume): Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in the biological sciences * Predoctoral or postdoctoral research experience in one or more of the following fields: cell signaling, immunology, autoimmunity, cancer biology, or biochemistry * Good oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and a thoughtful approach to experimental design and troubleshooting. * Scientific and personal integrity, strong work ethic, ability to learn new techniques, flexibility to change scientific or technical course, and enthusiasm for learning. * Desire to work at the interface of immune signaling, autoimmunity, and cancer biology. Preferred Qualifications: * Predoctoral or postdoctoral research experience using one or more of the following methods: immunoblotting, flow cytometry, mouse models of cancer or autoimmunity, mouse breeding and handling, molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture with sterile technique, biochemical assays * Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, Graphpad Prism, and/or Microsoft Office software About the Department The has broad interests in basic and biomedical research encompassing cell signaling, immunology, cancer biology, and structure-function, using methods ranging from purified proteins to mouse models and human samples.
