Xcel Energy OpCo Wildfire Program Execution Manager in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Summary

Provides leadership to direct and track the implementation of wildfire mitigation strategies and performance improvement initiatives across distribution, transmission, and vegetation management. Ensures execution of wildfire mitigation strategies related to grid design and system hardening, asset management and inspections, vegetation management and inspections, QA/QC, grid operations and protocol, such as public safety power shutoff procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Grid Design and System Hardening: Executes strategies for enhancing the resilience of the power grid to wildfire threats. Ensure collaboration with standards and engineering teams to design, prioritize, and implement grid upgrades and hardening measures. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to grid design and wildfire mitigation.

  • Asset Management and Inspections: Responsible for the oversight of asset management system to monitor and assess the condition of critical infrastructure. Utilize asset inspection protocols to validate the accuracy of the asset management system and work completed.

  • Vegetation Management and Inspections : Oversee vegetation risk management plans to reduce wildfire fuel load near power lines and infrastructure. Utilize inspection protocols to validate the accuracy ofvegetation QA/QC inspections to identify and mitigate potential fire hazards.

  • Grid Operations: Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to evaluate and upgrade protective equipment and technologies used within the grid to withstand wildfire conditions. Implement protocols and standards for device settings that minimize wildfire-related grid disturbances and enhance safety.

  • Grid Operations Protocols: Maintain wildfire grid operations programs, such as Public Safety Power Shutoffs and Wildfire Safety Settings, including communication strategies, protocols, and incident response plans. Collaborate with operations teams to monitor grid performance and implement real-time mitigation measures during wildfire events. Ensure execution of training programs for staff who will be involved in grid operations during wildfires. Continuously improve and refine operational procedures based on experience gained from previous events.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the utility or energy sector with experience in grid management or operations.

  • Knowledge of wildfire risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience with wildfire mitigation and QA/QC strongly preferred.

  • Excellent project/program management, and team collaboration skills.

  • PMP certification preferred.

  • Familiarity with GIS, asset management software, and data analysis tools.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, local communities, and emergency services.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $127,801.00 to $172,200.00 per year
