Fairview Health Services Nurse Manager - Labor and Delivery in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

M Health Fairview Medical Center, located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, is looking for a dynamic Nurse Manager to lead our Labor and Delivery team. The Nursing Manager leads nursing practice and patient care operations in collaboration with and accountable to the Nursing Director, this includes: nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.

We support not only women in our culturally varied community, but also support women across the state whom may need additional attention due to a high risk pregnancy or fetal diagnosis. Provider care is supported by OB Physicians, Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians, Family Practice Physicians, Certified Midwives, and Anesthesiologists.

The unit:

  • 14 Labor rooms, 3 Triage, 3 OR’s, 10 pregnancy special care rooms

  • Nurse to patient ratio: We support AWHONN standards

  • Labor support: The unit supports multiple interventions to reduce primary cesarean section rates and help support low risk births. This includes the use of ambulation, birthing balls, birth slings, use of tubs, and support from students or personal doulas.

Responsibilities Job Description

Job Expectations:

· Leads day-to-day operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.

· Plans, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.

· Runs equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.

· Accountable for capacity management to promote patient flow.

· Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the quality improvement initiatives.

· Responsible for human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.

· Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

· Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.

· Drive improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.

· In partnership the Nursing Practice and Education team assure that evidence based/standard process clinical care is being delivered.

· Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.

· Works with Nurse Director to establish goals and objectives.

· Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.

· Partners with interprofessional team members across the continuum of care to achieve organizational outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. If Bachelor’s degree is not in nursing must have a Master’s degree is nursing

Experience

· Four Years nursing experience, at least two of which is in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role.

License/Certification/Registration

· Licensed Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license at time of hire.

· BLS certification

Preferred

Education

· Master’s Degree in Nursing

License/Certification/Registration

· ANCC or AONL Certification
