Fairview Health Services Network Engineer in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

The primary role of the Network Engineer is to configure, test and implement network hardware solutions and technology integrations on the wired and wireless networks. Assist in troubleshooting to identify and resolve technical problems with hardware and established Local Area Network (LAN) and or Wide Area Network (WAN) systems through collaboration with Senior team members and vendors. Assist in the evaluation of user requirements and recommend possible network system designs based on cost benefit analysis and available tools.

Responsibilities Job Description

  • Assist in evaluating user requirements and recommending possible network system designs.

  • Participate in projects with an impact on network systems and assist in data network implementations.

  • Assist in conducting technical research on system network upgrades to assess compatibility, cost, and time required to implement.

  • Assist in switch administration and implementation of network hardware and application integrations.

  • Configure and maintain network system components and participate in network system designs.

  • Install or assist in the installation of network hardware and software by other team members and vendors.

  • Analyze and resolve technical problems with established networks.

  • Troubleshoot technical problems with established Local Area Network (LAN) and or Wide Area Network (WAN) systems through collaboration with peers and vendors.

  • Install and configure network services.

  • Serves on a team on-call rotation schedule to address emergency production issues.

  • Update and provide network system design documentation to vendors and developers.

  • Document network issues and resolutions.

  • Coordinate with project managers and vendors to assist in the management of project deliverables and minimize adverse impacts on existing systems and business processes.

  • Support other technology groups to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.

  • Assist in the use and administration of both the wired and wireless network monitoring and configuration tools.

Qualifications

Required

· Associate (2 year) or equivalent with focus in Computer/Network Engineering

· 3-5 years of relevant experience.

· Functional or educational knowledge of network systems design and implementation from configuration to network administration.

· Experience troubleshooting network system issues and exposure to balancing network capacity through bandwidth and network analysis.

· Understanding of technical infrastructure such as system management, support, and operations.

· Ability to communicate effectively with direct leader and other team members and to escalate network problems and to perform system documentation

· Cisco Switch and Router Hardware
