Fairview Health Services Manager Pharmacy Purchasing in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Under the direction of the Director, Pharmacy Contracts the Manager, Pharmacy Purchasing will provide operational and strategic management, and process development for optimal drug purchasing for Fairview. They will be responsible as a leader to manage, train and mentor pharmacy buyers to optimize purchasing from overall expense, inventory management and compliance perspective. They will work closely with 340B Operations Manager and Team to obtain optimal performance in applicable entities.

This is a full-time benefit eligible position!

Responsibilities Job Description

Responsible for operational financial optimization of drug purchasing in acute locations

  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and policies that effectively manage and monitor drug purchasing to effectively optimize purchasing from both expense and inventory management perspective

  • Optimize purchasing for 340B entities, taking into consideration GPO, WAC and PHS pricing and utilization to reach optimal blended rate, while striving to eliminate bad WAC purchasing

  • Ensure each purchase for 340B qualification based on best practice standards, Federal regulations and Fairview policies through close partnership with 340B Operations Team

  • Monitor prices, new products, contract changes and more, to enable guidance of buyers to the most cost effective and appropriate NDC’s and suppliers for each purchase

  • Monitor contract attachments for GPO, WAC and 340B accounts, alerting other team members for action as needed

  • Create and maintain reporting and data analysis related to purchasing performance; Track and report savings realized over time by medication and by facility

  • Supervise staff including hiring, orienting, coaching, evaluating and effectively managing performance to ensure staff possess the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to deliver high quality service to internal and external customers

  • Manage and maintain relationships as necessary for program success

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders as necessary for purchasing optimization success

  • Continually evaluate programs for process improvement

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, health care, data/IT or related field or equivalent experience.

Required Experience

  • Prior work experience in relevant field, of which 7+ years are in healthcare

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of progressive leadership experience

  • Experience collaborating with organizational leadership

  • Strong team and individual coaching and mentoring skills

Preferred Experience

  • 3-5 years of Supervisory/Management experience

  • 7+ years progressive experience in pharmacy, healthcare, and/or 340B

  • 5+ years progressive experience in pharmacy

  • Working knowledge of EPIC electronic medical record system

  • 340B split billing software knowledge

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of tools, including excel

  • Data analysis and presentation

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
