Position: Machinist - 2nd Shift

Team: Machining

Primary Objective of Position:

A Machinist is responsible for the setup and operation of CNC and manual machining equipment specifically for our Horizontal CNC Mill machine. A Machinist works within close tolerance requirements to create high quality parts, adhering to safety and quality standards.

Pay Types:

Voluntary weekday and weekend overtime.

Saturday is paid at time and a half, Sundays are paid at double time!

Job Type:

Monday - Friday, 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Full-time (Union)

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Machine high quality parts within tolerance requirements, on a large CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM).

  • Setting up and layout parts, both manually and using your machine to check proper locations and work offsets

  • Read routing information to determine sequence and method of machining.

  • Layout work, partner with Mfg. Engineering related to set up, machining and tooling.

  • Performs preventative maintenance of machines and equipment.

  • Uses electric and pneumatic hand tools.

  • Deburr and hand clean parts.

  • Completes necessary QA/Customer documentation.

  • Maintains a clean work area.

  • Lift and move materials using forklift, pallet jack, overhead crane or jib crane.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to Continuous Improvement by identifying opportunities in day to day work.

  • Performs to ISO 9001 Quality Standards and abides to OSHA and EPA regulations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • 2 year Machining degree or High School degree with a minimum of 3 years equivalent machining experience (preferred).

  • Can confidently indicate parts to find center, flatness, and square to the spindle.

  • Must have a strong knowledge base of a variety of creative setup methods, outside of standard work holding.

  • A strong skillset for milling, preferably running CNC Horizontal style mill. Preferred experience running Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM)

  • Ability to read design prints, understand geometric design & tolerancing (GD&T) and surface finish requirements.

  • Strong aptitude for using dial indicators, ID and OD micrometers, and other inspection equipment.

  • Ability to set up and run CNC machinery, Horizontal Milling Centers, boring mills, engine or turret lathes, radial or horizontal drilling machines, external/internal grinders.

  • Have the understanding of G&M Codes, CNC program reading, ability to make edits as needed.

  • Ability to operate equipment such as key-seaters, broaches, band saws, sanding equipment, grinders post drills, hydraulic press and propane or oxy-acetylene heating equipment.

  • Understand carbide tooling, feeds and speeds for the machining application.

  • Ability to be certified in overhead crane, Jib crane and forklift operation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Routinely lifts and moves objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Routinely ascends/descends ladders and stairs.

  • Occasionally works at heights or on platforms.

  • Occasionally positions self in various works spaces, including low, tight or confined spaces.

  • Routinely remains in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.

  • Routinely uses repetitive motions including the wrists, hands or fingers to operate machinery or tools.

This is a Union Shop. Skills and advancement within the department is documented via the Machining teams Skills Matrix. This position works as a team member utilizing and performing to the Machining Team skills matrix, which outlines the comprehensive skills in the Machining Team.
