Summary This position reports to the Electric shop within the Maintenance Division of Facilities Engineering Service at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center with physical assignment to the Laundry/Textile care facility. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The work is active, frequently requiring physical effort in lifting up to 35 pounds without assistance and over 50 pounds with assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment. Work assignments involve frequent standing, sitting, climbing of ladders, bending and working in cramped and awkward positions. The work is primarily indoors in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated shop area or building, but at times can be subjected to working outside for several hours in inclement weather conditions. Occasionally, the incumbent is exposed to the possibility of burns, cuts, electric shock, falls from a ladder and other normal hazards associated with working around machinery and confined spaces. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1).
