Salvation Army Food Services Manager in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Summary The Salvation Army Northern Division Harbor Light Center's Food Service Manager oversees the daily operation of a commercial kitchen providing over 750 healthy meals each day of the week. The Manager is responsible for ensuring licensing compliance, menu planning (donated and purchased food), and overseeing food preparation. The Manager provides supervision to food service staff and volunteers. Essential Functions (approximate time spent) * Oversee and manage all aspects of the commercial kitchen, meal service (3 meals per day, 7 days per week), and staff supervision ensuring licensing and dietary guidelines are met or exceeded (40%). * Plan menus and food utilization, based on anticipated number of meals, nutritional value, and available product to minimize food waste (10%). * Purchase food and supplies and arrange for donated food items (10%). * Ensure fiscal responsibility by remaining within budget, seeking/utilizing cost effective vendors for food purchases, and utilizing donated foods. (10%). * Ensure and maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of all food preparation, service, work areas, storage, equipment, and tools (10%). * Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and improvements to food service areas and equipment (5%). * Maintain an up-to-date inventory of food items and track required statistics (5%). * Ensure compliance with all relevant government and funder regulations and requirements (5%). * Assist with other meal (e.g., special events, meetings) planning and preparation (5%). Education and Experience * High School diploma or equivalent required. * Licensed Food Service Manager (Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager required). * ServSafe Food Manager certification. * Five years of relevant experience required and/or a degree in culinary arts. * Must pass background checks, possess valid driver's license, and meet MVR driving requirements. Competencies * Flexible interpersonal and communication skills * Strong managerial skills including planning, motivating, problem-solving, decision-making, and delegating. * Must be familiar with quantity food preparation, kitchen equipment and proper sanitation practices. * Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines and best practices, and health code. * Proficient with PC, Microsoft Office, and standard office equipment. Working Conditions * Moderate physical work and must be able to lift 50 pounds required.
