This is an 80% (32 hours per week) position. Pay range: The hourly pay rate for this position ranges from $25.98-32.49/hour. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to: Prepare patient, arrange instruments, set-up and prepare dental materials necessary for treatment/procedure. Prepare operatories using infection control techniques. Set up I.V.'s and necessary medications for conscious sedation. Maintain supplies, equipment and clinic cleanliness. Sterilize instruments including cleaning, wrapping and autoclaving. Demonstrate to dental students and residents the proper use of materials and techniques required for infection control protocol. Provide chair side assistance to dental students, residents and faculty during examinations and surgical/non-surgical procedures while maintaining a clear operative field. Assist with intraoral photography. Take digital photographs during surgery. Provide preoperative care to patients by taking blood pressure and pulse. Provide postoperative care to the patients when directed. Expose and process dental radiographs Assist Residents and Staff Hygienist's as needed with charting, x-rays and room turnover. Order supplies online from central supply. Prepare necessary paperwork to aid in ordering supplies from outside vendors. Monitor expiration dates on drugs/equipment within emergency kit as well as for sedation and work with clinic supervisor to replenish supplies as needed. Help the receptionist as needed. Assist faculty and students to establish a professional environment by providing positive support to patients. Perform patient care activities relevant to the assigned duties as permitted by the Dental Practices Act. Other duties as assigned Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Please detail all the required qualifications on your application materials Graduation from an accredited dental assistant course/program. Certified as a dental assistant (DANB).* Current State of Minnesota Dental Assistant License. Current certification in BLS. Experience in or knowledge of (must be able to speak to what the process and procedure is) bone grafting procedures and periodontal surgery. Experience in or knowledge of (must be able to speak to what the process and procedure is) I.V. sedation, monitoring of patient vital signs and surgical placement of dental implants. Experience/education in Intra Oral Photography, Sterilizing and Ordering of clinic supplies (optional). Experience working with a diverse patient base. Must work well with others in a team environment and must demonstrate a positive attitude in the clinic. Must have a history of good attendance and timeliness and commitment to working well with team members of diverse backgrounds, education and experiences. Must be committed to following all required PPE standards and protocols at all times to ensure safety of faculty, staff, students and patients. * A trainee option is available to a candidate that does not currently have DANB certifications. These MUST be obtained within 4 months of the start date of this position. If not obtained in the 4 month time period the position will be ended and the employee terminated as failing probation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years experience in a dental office or clinic; preferably dedicated Periodontics clinic. Experience with conscious sedation. Flexible, reliable and works well in a fast paced, high volume environment. Able to work collaboratively and respectfully in a team environment is essential. Familiarity with School of Dentistry or similar emergency protocols.
