Strategically consult with University staff and leaders regarding job requirements to retain a world-class workforce. Ensure the job evaluation process is compliant with laws and regulations, labor practices, and collective bargaining agreements. Classification (90%) Analyze position descriptions to determine proper classification, including FLSA status, using a variety of classification tools, including point factor and whole-job position analysis methods. Ensure classification decisions are made as specified in service-level agreements and/or labor contracts. Provide strategic consultation to human resources partners and managers to help determine appropriate classifications for positions. Conduct position and reclassification pre-reviews to assess workforce strategies and needs of the department, while remaining compliant with University classification and compensation standards and policies. Function as primary contact for classification questions from managers and employees and work with departments to resolve classification related issues. Interpret and consult on contract language and employment policies related to classification for managers, employees, and human resources partners. Interview employees, managers, and HR staff to ensure work is accurately reflected in job evaluation documentation as needed. Participate in the appeal process if an employee formally appeals classification decisions. Prepare, process, and represent the University of Minnesota at appeal hearings which the Bureau of Mediation Services facilitates. Provide information, training, and expert guidance to ensure consistency and proper classification across the university. Maintain records of classification determinations and related information. Process Improvement (10%) Participates in team projects related to effectiveness and efficiency of department procedures and processes, and documentation of standard instructions and operating procedures. Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement to ensure the classification system supports the overall recruiting and retention strategy. Proactively researches and resolves employee questions and concerns, identifying common pain points to improve education, navigation, access, and the overall employee experience. Qualifications Required: BA/BS degree and two years of experience or a combination of related education and/or relevant human resources experience to total at least six years. Preferred: Experience with job analysis/evaluation of exempt and non-exempt positions; writing job descriptions, advising/interpreting human resources policies and procedures. Customer service, negotiation, critical thinking, and independent critical thinking skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
