Outreach Specialist

The Opportunity

The SHERPA Program is seeking an Outreach Specialist for our location in Suffolk County. SHERPA is a specially trained team of peer recovery coaches offering guidance to individuals and families navigating the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment system. SHERPA provides recovery, harm-reduction, and crisis service linkage and emotional support based on the principles of hope, wellness, dignity, and choice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide outreach to individuals and families struggling with SUD (Substance Use Disorder) in order to facilitate their engagement in services and offer additional supports through the Sherpa Program

  • Acts as a resource to all Sherpa team members on issues related to substance abuse and resources/services/connections available in the community

  • Act as liaison between the FCA Sherpa Program and the communities it serves to establish and build new relationships and foster existing relationships with community stakeholders, treatment providers, and other community resources

  • Represent the FCA Sherpa Program in a professional and knowledgeable manner and assist in the promotion of the program through information and education about its services to the communities we serve

  • Assist Sherpa peers in providing individuals and families social and recovery support services, referrals, and linkages to prevention, treatment, and harm reduction services

  • Provide education about life-saving treatments such as overdose reversal medications and medication assisted treatment options and distribute fentanyl strips and other prevention and harm reduction resources

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite·

  • Valid NYS driver's license

Additional Information

Salary: $21.98/hr
