PURPOSE OF POSITION: Perform duties to improve overall quality and eliminate the causes of scrap and rework, acquire electrical and/or mechanical process data and drive changes to improve productivity. Determine and analyze root cause of scrap and rework failure(s) and defects to drive process improvements. Responsibilities can include working on special projects with Manufacturing Engineering in such areas as lean conversion, new product introduction or process development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Recommend process improvements and remedial corrective actions based on thorough analysis and direct actions.

· Utilize electronics and/or mechanical knowledge to devise test configurations, select test equipment, and choose measurement parameters to evaluate product performance.

· Develop methodologies for and perform root cause analysis.

· Interact effectively with internal and external associates, customers and suppliers.

· Support sustaining Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering tasks such as product disposition (both preliminary review and MRB) rework instructions, process equipment support, tooling replacement and modification.

· Initiate corrective action on design, workmanship and vendor issues.

· Modify work and test instructions to reflect desired process, including taking and incorporating photos.

· Keep neat, legible, complete notebook records and data sheets of all tests and projects. Provide summary reports of findings and recommendations.

· Actively support disposition of defective product.

· Position reports to the Value Stream Manager or designee.

· Typically no direct reports but can lead Techs.

· Internal relationships include Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality and Document Control.

· Key Performance Indicators of assigned areas include safety, quality, labor cost, productivity, scrap, rework, working capital and on-time delivery.

· Completion of assigned tasks meeting schedule dates.

· Complete sustaining tasks in the area of assigned responsibility.

BACKGROUND AND SKILLS:

· Technical college degree or equivalent, acceptable training or work experience may be substituted for education.

· Clear understanding of technical information, including schematics and engineering drawings.

· W o rk fr o m d i agr a ms, ske t ch e s , sche m atics a nd e ng ineer i ng i n structio n s .

· Able to read and analyze data in hard copy and on a computer screen.

· Strong product electrical and mechanical design understanding.

· Demonstrated knowledge of com p uter an d peri p h e rals, h a nd, power a n d mach i ne t o ols, sco p es, meters and o t her measur i ng d e vices, a n d el e c tr i c al test e q uipment.

· Level I is generally a recent technical grad and/or an individual entering a new technical area with some prior applicable knowledge of skill set.

· Able to prioritize effectively with minimum supervision.

· Able to meet multiple, sometimes conflicting deadlines.

· Detail and team oriented.

· Able to communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups with a variety of personality types and levels of the organization as well as with outside customers.

· Able to sit/stand for long periods of time.
