JOB REQUIREMENTS: Paralegal - PARAL001958 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Paralegal Job Responsibilities: * Receive, review, and track victims\' requests and referrals for legal assistance, schedule intakes, and assist attorneys in preparing for client meetings, hearings, and trials by providing bilingual support and interpretation as needed. * Assist with tracking referrals, reports, and services external legal partners provide. * Assist with reviewing, analyzing, and preparing immigration applications, petitions, and other legal documents for filing in the appropriate forum. * Maintain and adhere to a strict code of confidentiality. * Obtain supporting evidence from law enforcement, assist clients with affidavits, including translation, and obtain court records and transcripts. * Regularly update the UMOS case management system, including client information, case tracking information, and client communications; prepare reports for the Attorneys and DOJ Partially Accredited Representatives. * Maintain complex copy files and documents to support immigration legal cases. * Accurately and efficiently translate documentary evidence (including affidavits, birth certificates, and others), legal documents, correspondence, and communication between clients, attorneys, and external parties accurately and efficiently from Spanish to English. * Facilitation of language line interpretation services for clients who require this service. * Proficient with legal tasks, including conducting legal research and analysis to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy development. * Assist in drafting legal memoranda, briefs, reports, and other written submissions in English and Spanish. * Stay abreast of changes in bilingual legal terminology, procedures, and regulations to effectively communicate and navigate the legal system on behalf of clients. * Performs other duties and responsibilities to meet agency and program goals and objectives. Bachelor\'s degree in paralegal studies or a related legal field or Wisconsin certified paralegal is preferred. * One year experience in a paralegal or other legal position required; one year experience working in immigration, human trafficking, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking preferred. * Bilingual (English/Spanish) verbal and written is required. * A minimum of one year experience with legal database software is required. * Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office/Office 365 (especially Word, Excel and Outlook); ability to learn and apply technology to create efficiencies. * Demonstrated experience serving diverse populations, e.g., in a trauma-informed environment. * Experience with efficiently prioritizing time-sensitive duties. * Must be able to travel in the state and work irregular hours as needed. * Must have access to reliable transportation, a valid Wisconsin Driver\'s License, and adequate auto liability insurance. Education Required Associates or better in Paralegal Studies.
