Under the direction of the department supervisor provides EKG, cardiac monitoring and Cardiology testing to patients. Performs a variety of technical and clerical duties related to the department which includes scheduling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interprets accurately physician orders and schedules patients appropriately maintaining the schedule to optimize patient care. Communicates information about the schedule following department policy. Contacts the appropriate person for clarification/resolution when unsure of an order or scheduling conflicts arise. Documents accurately all pertinent patient demographic and insurance information. Properly identifies the patient according to policy using name and date of birth every time. Obtains informed consent for stress testing. Communicates information and instructions regarding tests and specimen collection to clients (e.g. patients and/or family members, physicians, other healthcare providers) in a manner appropriate to and respectful of the age group of the client even under adverse conditions. Monitors equipment function and documents information as required by department policy Takes corrective action as needed in consultation with the supervisor, if required, and documents it. Accurately and appropriately performs clerical functions to support the department's needs such as filing, obtaining signatures, mounting traces, etc. Ensures work area is neat and clean. Monitors adequacy of supplies adhering to department policy for restocking. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times including, but not limited to, respect for patient rights to privacy and confidentiality, adequate and appropriate age-related interactions, and handling emergent situations. Answers telephone according to standard hospital policy taking action, recording messages, and/or relaying messages as appropriate. Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures. At all times, promotes the safety and health of themselves, coworkers, patients, and visitors to Milton Hospital. May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager, supervisor or senior technician. Understands position includes rotation on holiday that happen on a weekday. Understands position requires flexibility in starting times and assignments to accommodate patient and/or department needs Understands that all job functions are subject to change at the discretion of the Hospital Administration. Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served. Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures. May be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the department manager or supervisor. The nature of the tasks/responsibilities required of employees in this position will likely expose them to blood and body fluids. Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. Also identified is the protective gear that is available.
