Description

The Graduation Coach provides in-person academic advising and registration support to returning students each term. They identify at-risk students using database and spreadsheet reports, to provide individualized success coaching and academic advising each term. They assist students in overcoming barriers, academic, personal, and financial by providing available campus resources, tutoring, and mental health services. Creates and maintains a budget for their team annually, in coordination with the Dean of Students. Supervises Graduation Coach Assistants and other team members. Responsible for student retention and graduation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational guidance, support, and assistance using a variety of advising techniques to create personalized interventions, coaching, and support services (both academic and non-academic)

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to develop learning, financial, and life strategies that promote student success, specifically focusing on developing skills in time/stress management, managing freedoms, goal setting, creating study plans, preparing for tests, utilizing individual learning styles, financial literacy, and other student success skills and strategies.

  • In collaboration with faculty advisors, assist students with establishing and revising the academic program of study by planning schedules, recommending courses, and determining appropriate education solutions to overcome barriers to student success.

  • Process university withdrawals and capture data to identify and address the reasons why students withdraw as well as create intentional intervention strategies to decrease/deter the withdrawal outcome.

  • Identify policies, processes, procedures, and behaviors that create barriers to student success and work with the Campus Director to address and resolve those system-level issues.

Qualifications

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in education or related field

Preferred: Master's degree

Experience

Required: One year of college-level advising or transferable student advocacy, mentoring, coaching experience

Preferred: Three or more years of relevant higher education advising experience

Skills

Required: The desire and ability to work in a collaborative, team environment, an innovate mindset and the ability to operate in a sometimes-ambiguous environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, self-motivation, excellent time management, and organization skills
