Summary:

At Meta Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected–anytime, anywhere. We are building a team of world-class experts developing and shipping products at the intersection of consumer electronics, luxury goods, and high fashion. Our team will be responsible for taking the breakthrough design of the Ray-Ban Stories glasses and delivering brand specific variants to market, at scale. Based in Milan, the Smart Glasses Italy Design Center will actively participate in concept development, design ideation, and setting product architecture. From there, our team is tasked with executing and validating the range of designs that we develop with our partners in a manner that is consistent with Meta's culture of end-to-end ownership.Our team is seeking Product Design Engineers (Mechanical Engineers) who have the drive and commitment to deliver the highest quality next generation consumer electronics product to market and do it in a fast paced and collaborative environment. As a senior Product Design Engineer, you will own detailed CAD design, and mechanical integration, as well as be responsible for stewarding overall systems through the ideation, design, manufacturing, and assembly process. You will provide detailed evaluation of subsystems based on agreed upon design metrics and engineering best practices. This will require working in partnership with various cross functional teams including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineers, System Engineering, Tooling, Reliability, Operations as well as a range of other external partners. You will be required to develop a deep understanding of our partners’ needs and provide solutions that are inclusive of them. You will be expected to bring a strong technical background in engineering fundamentals as well broad experience in the product development processes and manufacturing, to aid the team in navigating the trade-offs between robust design, product cost, and time to market. Additionally, you will be expected to help build and mentor a fledgling team of engineers as we look to break new ground in the area of high fashion smart glasses.

Required Skills:

Product Design Engineer (Consumer Electronics) Responsibilities:

  1. Engage with partner and contract manufacturers to realize design goals.

  2. Provide team guidance, regular feedback, education, coaching and mentoring.

  3. Collaborate with leadership teams and design partners to define compelling products and the processes needed to create them.

  4. Perform architecture and design reviews to ensure hardware quality.

  5. Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines in a team environment

  6. Used 3D CAD to generate parts, assemblies, and system level designs

  7. Model, build, test, and refine prototypes to generate solutions to complex design challenges.

  8. Own part and subsystem designs as they transition from prototype to mass production.

  9. Represent and advocate for mechanical engineering activities in multi-disciplinary cross-functional team environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering.

  2. +5 years of product design experience, with a focus on enclosure, electronics integration, and mechanism design.

  3. +1 years of experience leading engineering teams through the product development cycle.

  4. Strong leadership skills and the ability to successfully navigate ambiguous environments

  5. Strong engineering fundamentals - Mechanics of Solids, Statics, Dynamics, Materials, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, Statistics Strong 3D CAD design skills

  6. Knowledge of various manufacturing techniques (Injection molding, Die-cast, MIM, Die-Cutting, Machining, 3D printing, etc.)

  7. Experience in Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly Understanding of mechanical constraints systems.

  8. Strong problem solving and failure analysis skills.

  9. Understanding of part tolerancing, assembly stackups, and statistical evaluation methodology

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with embedded computing and wearable devices.

  2. Direct experience in R&D and shipping consumer electronic hardware.

  3. Expert with 3D design modeling and physical prototyping.

  4. Proficient in advance 3D surfacing utilizing Siemens NX, as well as exposure to PTC's Creo

  5. Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc.
