Our greatest asset has been, and will continue to be, our people.  Occidental is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Automation and Controls Engineer in the Low Carbon Ventures Commercial Development department in Midland, TX. The role will be working at the Stratos Direct Air Capture facility in Notrees, TX. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the design, development and execution of automation engineering activities in Low Carbon Ventures projects at the Stratos DAC facility.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide automation project leadership and day-to-day automation support for the Direct Air Capture Plant (Stratos). 
  • Participate in the development & implementation of automation strategies for upgrade, expansion, continuous improvement, life cycle, and preventive maintenance of automation infrastructure for facilities and extended infrastructure as needed.
  • Programming PLC’s, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) within guidelines of OXY automation standards
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships with onsite plant manager and operations team. 
  • Understand business priorities, challenges and provide solutions to their problems in the automation area. 
  • Enforce change control processes (MOCs) and monitor compliance via regular auditing activities.
  • Mentoring facility technical staff in identifying and resolving Process Control, Control Network, and Instrumentation problems.
  • Assist in evaluation of new facilities production/automation technologies.
  • Work with IT and Central Automation Group to provide comprehensive support.
  • For facility modification efforts, generate all automation engineering project documentation, adhere to change control processes (MOC) and deliver projects on time and is implemented as designed.
  • Maintain project schedule, implementation, compliance to design and commissioning.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, follow processes, policies; including environmental & safety, and act as a contributing member of a team environment.  
  • Must be able to plan and prioritize daily tasks with excellent organizational skills including accurate records keeping and proper documentation. 
  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit driving a company vehicle.  
  • Must be willing to travel, respond to callouts on nights & weekends, as needed. 

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related degree

Experience:

Minimum 8 years work experience on automation projects

 

Professional/Technical Knowledge:

·       Knowledge of oil and gas production processes

·       Knowledge of RTUs. and PLCs. Understanding of digital and analog I/O, programming, and troubleshooting.

·       Strong knowledge of automation and electrical design principles and industry standards.

·       Understanding of Pre-Start Safety Review process (PSSR)s and Management of Change (MOCs).

·       Adequate knowledge of relational database systems, Object Oriented Programming

·       Be knowledgeable with tagging conventions, programing simulation and testing

 

Skills & Competencies:

·       Rockwell Studio 5000 and Plant PAx

·       Proficient in Root Cause Analysis

·       Ability to perform under pressure and work multiple projects concurrently

·       Ability to develop technical and economic recommendations with incomplete information

·       Strong written, oral and project management skills

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Demonstrate ability to perform strong time management skills

·       Ability to interact with customers and clients in a positive and professional manner
