We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Student to join our team!

Raytheon ELCAN designs various optical and opto-electronic systems, modules and sub-modules operating in different wavebands, with particular emphasis on infrared and visible systems. We are a vertically integrated manufacturing facility, with research, design, procurement and manufacturing teams pressing novel technologies in the Aerospace & Defense Markets.The Co-op student will gain experience interfacing with all facets of ELCAN’s operations (Sales, Supply Chain, Design, and Manufacturing) throughout the 16 month placement.

Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, the Electrical Design Co-op will use commercial software such as Altium, Quartus, Labview, MPLAB and Inventor to design, evaluate and verify a wide variety of Electro-optic systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, evaluate and verify Electro-optical systems

  • Design tasks include Schematic Capture, PCB Layout, Embedded C, Verilog and Labview

  • Build and debug prototype circuits

  • Repair prototype circuits using basic soldering and electrical test equipment

  • Participate in research to ensure potential design concepts can be manufactured within budget

  • Work collaboratively with other engineering and production groups

Qualification & Experience

  • Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering post-secondary program is required

  • Working knowledge of CAD software to design and develop products. Altium and Inventor preferred

  • Knowledge of embedded C and Verilog Programming

  • Use of Basic Lab Equipment (Oscilliscopes, Multimeters etc.)

  • Basic soldering skills

  • Proficient user in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Well-developed written and communication skills

  • Ability to be adaptive and take initiative

  • Experience with optical systems is an asset but not required
