Responsibilities Under the direction of Sterile Processing leadership, the responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Technician is to perform in the decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, tracking, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Qualifications Minimum Education for Sterile Processing Technician: High school graduate or equivalent required. Minimum Experience: Six (6) months experience in Sterile Processing preferred; Instrument tracking system experience preferred; Basic computer skills, anatomy and medical terminology required Required Certification/Registration: Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) through IAHCSMM OR certification as Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through CBSPD required. Working Conditions: Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Works in an area with no outside exposure; area is climate controlled; frequent exposure to water and cleaning solutions; exposure to contaminated items limited by use of protective clothing & equipment (provided); exposure to sterilizing chemicals within legal limits. No direct patient contact. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold, noise, blood/body fluids. Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing, reaching (overhead, extensive and repetitive) and/or constant walking. Ability to continuously lift 25 lbs and push and pull 110 lbs. Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary. Essential employee may be subject to extended work hours.
