State of Massachusetts Muslim Chaplain Per Diem Position in Middleton, Massachusetts

This position shall be occupied by a contract employee under the conditions outlined in this service agreement. This agreement shall not contain any benefit package. This position shall report to the Interfaith Coordinator, consistent with the needs of the agency. This contract employee shall work under the supervision of Interfaith Coordinator to plan, staff and implement worship services, and provide spiritual counseling for inmates of the Islamic faith through knowledge of sacred texts. Duties include leading weekly Jummah services and study groups, assisting Interfaith Coordinator to assess the sincerity of faith practice for inmates who request a special religious diet, providing spiritual direction to inmates of any faith, and coordinating religious holidays, festivals, and/or other related events. In consideration for performing the duties and responsibilities therefore mentioned above, the contract employee shall be compensated at a rate of $27.00 per hour at no more than 30 hours per week. This contract employee will perform all other job-related duties as assigned or required by the Interfaith Coordinator/Head Chaplain · Graduate degree or equivalent training in divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, chaplaincy, or a related field. Applicants currently enrolled in Graduate programs are also encouraged to apply · Minimum 2 years of experience in chaplaincy/religious leadership within and across the Muslim community, which may include internships · Two, or more, units of CPE are preferred; one is required (or equivalency) · Demonstrated experience in multi-faith dialogue, engagement, and leadership · Experience in prison ministry and understanding inmate’s spiritual needs, as well as needs of staff and Corrections officers, and institutional regulations to facilitate smooth delivery of exceptional spiritual care in a very structured environment.
