Middlebury College DLC Catering Server (On-Call) in Middlebury, Vermont

Performs all front of house activities at catered events including room and table set up, break down/cleanup of room, table service, buffet service and beverage service. Back of the House participation may be requested when appropriate. Performs all duties while maintaining a friendly and courteous demeanor to appropriately represent Middlebury College at functions.

This is considered a part time non benefits eligible position. The wage is $19.95 per hour.

Requirements

Essential Functions

• Follows instructions and reacts positively to constructive feedback

• Works individually or in a group to ensure proper service methods and procedures are delivered for all catered events.

*Helps others when necessary.

• Responsible for ensuring that the function room is set and food service is ready before guests arrive.

• Provides the catered event services including working with food items, bar area set-up and service, cleanup and breakdown.

• Must have knowledge of the flow and direction of the event.

• Must be able to work quickly and carefully while carrying trays of plated food with a pleasant and professional demeanor.

• Use effective communication when speaking with guests, fellow wait staff, the kitchen or the managers.

• Knowledge of all the menu items is necessary for each function.

*Able to identify and communicate potential allergens to guests

• Promotes a comfortable environment for guests.

• Follows direction of the Dining Room Manager as to the pace and timing of service, anticipates needs and pre-thinks problems that might result in a potential sources of conflict.

General Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the care, upkeep and of all Middlebury College catering and kitchen spaces and all equipment during catering functions.

• Must have knowledge of the flow of a function and be able to adjust as necessary and on a moment’s notice. Flexibility is a required.

• If event takes place outside of Atwater Dining, it may be necessary to return to Atwater to continue cleanup activities.

Experience

Specific experience is not required to join the team aside from enthusiasm and flexibility, however you must demonstrate value to the team through understanding of the Catering Handbook. Consistent growth and improvement in service skills and teamwork is expected in order to progress to the next level and remain on the on-call team.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs. frequently during the day and up to 50 lbs. a few times each day with assistance. Requires long periods of time standing and frequent walking. Also requires frequent bending and reaching. A high level of activity is required throughout the shift, and must be maintained. May require overtime. Work shifts may occur during any time of the day, seven days per week on the Main Middlebury Campus or the Bread Loaf Campus. High School aged employees will be scheduled only during the appropriate legal work hours. College Students must be aware of their own academic demands when requesting shifts. Appropriate attire, grooming and adherence to professional standards is required. Punctuality is essential.
