Description

Seeking Chemical or Materials Scientist or Engineer with research and development experience to contribute to and lead applied R&D and product development programs.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities *include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualified Candidates will be able to support several (not necessarily all) of the following:

  • Lead technical development portions of projects in a multi-disciplinary environment, where topics include material evaluation, electrode formulation, electrode coating, electrolyte formulation, overall cell design, prototype and pilot cell assembly, and/or integrated battery design and assembly
  • Implement new technology from concept through detailed design and testing/demonstration
  • Apply fundamental principles of chemistry and materials science to optimize material, processing, and performance interrelations. Area of focus will include battery cells.
  • Prepare battery cell electrodes and/or electrolytes at laboratory scale
  • Periodically work in a dry room (=-40°C dew point) environment
  • Assemble and test battery coin and pouch cells
  • Communicate results in written and oral formats contributing to internal project meetings, external technical reports, and/or external presentations

Desirable, not required, experiences include:

  • Direct experience developing battery cell electrodes and electrolytes
  • Direct experience with film coating techniques
  • Direct experience transitioning laboratory cell developments to initial production
  • Direct experience managing development efforts to objectives, schedule, and budget

Requirements
  • Exclusive US citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required
  • BS or MS in Chemical/Materials Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university is required
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years non-academic experience is required with any of the following: battery cell design, battery electrode formulation and fabrication, battery electrolyte formulation, battery cell assembly, battery integration, and/or battery and cell performance and safety testing.
