The University of Miami is currently seeking a Supervisor, Medical Technologists to work at the UM Hospital in Miami. The incumbent will supervise laboratory personnel and schedules. The Supervisor, Medical Technologists will participate and assign weekly responsibilities to staff and will establish a system of shared responsibility for routine laboratory activities such as inventory, ordering, and routine instrument maintenance. He/she will work closely with the Laboratory Director in the development of clinical testing and research studies, and with the laboratory compliance officer to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local licensure regulations.

Core Job Functions

  • Supervises laboratory personnel and schedules to include Medical Technologists licensed by the state of Florida

  • Actively promotes a positive, team-oriented approach to work

  • Participates in weekly meetings with all laboratory personnel to discuss work schedules and all other work-related matters

  • Works with compliance officers and the Laboratory Director to ensure compliance with federal, state and local licensure requirements and regulations for the laboratory operations and personnel

  • Executes quality assurance/quality control activities and reports promptly any suspected irregularities to the Laboratory Director

  • Becomes actively engaged in all research and development activities of the laboratory to include: analyze lab reports for accuracy, including calculating blood components and monitors data to ensure accuracy. Detailed documentation and performance reviews are monitored to ensure proficiency, among others

  • Rotates into the routine work schedule performing bone marrow / stem cell processing for the intent to infuse into patients, transport cellular therapy products between clinic and Stem Cell Processing Laboratory and receive cellular therapy products from outside donor centers

  • Organizes information and develops time-tables for matters related to instrument and reagent vendor selection in order to provide the most cost-effective service possible

  • Enhances and coordinates results reporting and communication between the laboratory and customers

  • Supervises the training of new medical technologists and trains the staff in the use of new tests and methods. Assures competence of medical technologists in all aspects of their performance

  • Maintains required CME credits, including annual laboratory safety, blood borne pathogens, latex safety training, HIPPA/Privacy training, and other related training

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Supervisor experience

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory with competence in technical ability

  • Good decision making process/problem solve and ability to prioritize

  • Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well with others

  • Solid computer skills

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, health or physical sciences area

  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Supervisor license issued by the state of Florida

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

  • Three years of work related experience
