NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible casework providing direct and referral services to youth at risk for entering the juvenile justice system and juvenile delinquents. You are required to assist clients and their families with personal, family and community problems. The work involves interaction with the Juvenile Assessment Center, The Department of Children and Families, The Juvenile Courts and Miami-Dade County Schools. You must be a self-starter, detailed oriented and able to work independently. There is a certain amount of fieldwork required. You report directly to the program supervisor.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

  • Create case files for new client files, and for existing clients update and maintain files in proper format and on a timely basis.
  • Assess additional needs of the client and his or her family based on the client treatment plan and any information obtained from home visit or telephone conversations family; then develop a plan action that details the services needed.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions on individual responsibilities and self-respect.
  • Conduct training sessions on community development, basic life skills, conflict resolution and parental skills for the parent(s) or guardian(s).
  • Conduct home visitations to become familiar with the economic and social conditions under which the clients live.
  • Tutor students in basic math, language arts and civics.
  • Prepare and present informational workshops, and police and community relationship activities.
