Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Behavioral Health Technician operates as a backup to the Licensed Mental Health Clinician that goes out to an in-person MRT crisis call. Job Functions include those listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, and emotional support.

  • Transport and clinicians responding to crisis calls in the community within the 60-minute required timeframe.

  • Provide input in clinical team meetings.

  • Provide follow up to individuals in the community as identified

  • Engage individuals and families in the community to assist in de-escalating crisis.

  • Assist therapists with consumer interventions and redirect consumers when behavior is inappropriate.

  • Provides warm hand off to community resources, services, and supports.

  • Assist dispatcher in triage of phone calls and provides community resource information as needed.

  • Engages individuals and families in the crisis planning process using evidenced based practices including Motivational Interviewing and Mental Health First Aid.

  • Assist the clinician in the development of safety or crisis care plan.

  • Coordinates psychiatric face-to-face or telehealth appointments with psychiatrist within 48 hours of intervention.

  • Provides after hours crisis services on a rotation schedule.

  • Transports individuals to designated receiving facilities under a voluntary or involuntary status, if deemed safe to transport, if the individual does not have other transportation options available and agrees to be transported by the MRT.

  • Interacts with management to gather and provide information.

  • Completes all orientation and mandated training activities, including E-Learning Courses, within required timeframes, and in accordance with the criteria established for this position.

  • Must Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare Foundation; and

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required.

  • During your tenure with WestCare there may be new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare may have to comply with. Should this occur Human Resources or appropriate personnel will inform you.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in behavioral health crisis services.

  • Familiarity with Monroe County.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field is preferred.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Registered Behavioral Technician Certification is strongly preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office/residential setting.

  • Some outdoor activities may be required.

  • Some travel is required.
