*Department: Safety *Position Title: Safety Specialist **Exemption Status: Exempt

**Summary of Job Function To provide occupational safety and health expertise, to assure a safe and healthful workplace, and to assure compliance with all state and federal regulations. Safety Specialist is authorized (and required) to suspend any observed unsafe practices pending management review.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting safety and health hazard assessment to anticipate, recognize, and control occupational hazards and risks.
  • Development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in the development of safety plans and programs (e.g. Health and Safety Plan, Occupant Emergency Plan and Hazard Communication Plan).
  • Implementing safety plan and programs in accordance with all applicable regulations (OSHA, Local, State and Federal) standard and guidelines.
  • Completing accident/incident investigation and documentation for each incident, including assurance that timely reporting has been accomplished and any hazards observed are removed or corrected.
  • Manage workers compensation process. Report injuries and submit required information to the workers compensation carrier. Work with employee, supervisor, and Human Resources regarding leave of absences, modified job duties, and return to work process.
  • Responding to employee safety, health and environmental concerns and complaints.
  • Coordination activities with safety and health representatives from other organizations.
  • Maintain the sites safety and health management system.
  • Conduct trainings and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Chair company safety committee.
  • Maintain, update and revise all machine specific Lockout/Tag-out procedures and conduct annual reviews to ensure accuracy.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Support company requirements to meet customer goals and objectives.
  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communications and Fair Treatment.
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities.
  • Assists with the development and promotion of employee health and wellness programs. (New Duty)
  • Conduct Adult First Aid and CPR training for employees (New Duty)
  • Performs other duties and assignments as required.
