WGNO-TV in New Orleans is seeking a skilled meteorologist to join our team. As a meteorologist, you will work with the News Director and fellow meteorologists to shape the vision and provide constructive feedback to our weather department. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to craft and deliver engaging, easy-to-understand forecasts for both our television broadcasts and digital platforms.

New Orleans is the major league capital of tropical weather coverage. This is why weather is a critical need for our viewers. The publics safety is a vital concern for us. We take our responsibility very seriously. Accuracy is essential in our work. You will be responsible for comprehensive coverage of severe weather events and hurricanes, conveying information with urgency while maintaining a reassuring demeanor.

Our meteorologists must excel in a multi-platform environment and will contribute to our digital platforms, including social media engagement and wgno.com.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Forecast weather conditions and produce/anchor weather reports on all platforms in a clear, engaging, and impactful manner.
  • Take ownership and execute our Forecast First weather.
  • Respond urgently to breaking and severe weather events on all platforms including broadcast, digital, wgno.com, and social media.
  • Collaborate with a growing team of meteorologists.
  • Write and update detailed daily web stories.
  • Take part in promotional activities and public appearances.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Build a forecast that relates to our viewers.
  • Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Must know about weather forecasting and systems.
  • The ideal candidate will be familiar with WSI Max technology.
  • College degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science or related field of study preferred.
  • Minimum two years experience preferred as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
  • Certified Broadcast designation from AMS and/or NWA
  • Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.
  • Ability to enterprise weather-related stories during the week.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts.
  • Must be able to work under deadlines and can multitask.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
