Nammo Defense Systems, Inc Research Technician in Mesa, Arizona

Position Summary:

The Research Technician will report to the Research Operations Manager. The Technician will be trained and become an expert in execution of chemical and energetic material testing and experimentation in the Research laboratory and pilot-scale propellant facility. The qualifying candidate will have an innate desire to learn and excitement to work in this field with a positive attitude.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • A degree in Chemistry or related science is a plus.

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory or technical manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Perform assigned tasks using standardized procedures or verbal/written instructions.

  • Maintain laboratory procedures, instruments, and equipment and facility.

  • Conduct energetic material mixes as directed by research chemist.

  • Mix chemical solutions/compositions.

  • Perform physical, mechanical, and burn rate testing on energetic materials.

  • Perform mathematical calculations, plot data, draw curves, prepare tables and graphs, and maintain accurate records.

  • Report test results in written format incorporating tables and graphs.

  • Operate standard laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Observe standard laboratory and safety practices.

  • Become a subject matter expert in the execution of test methods.

  • Collaborate with scientists on creating adequate and accurate standard test procedures.

  • Be comfortable working with explosive materials

    Required Experience & Skills:

    • Associates degree in a technical field or High School or General Education Diploma (GED) with hands-on work experience (chemical lab and processing equipment experience is preferred)

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

    • Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations.

    • Ability to work effectively with the cross-functional NDS Mesa Team

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point.

    • Highly organized.

    • Strong work ethic.

    • Lift or move up to 50 pounds.

    • Frequently required to stand and walk while occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
