Position Summary

The Labourer is part of an effective construction team that successfully completes projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining high quality and a safe workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas

  • Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, barricades and other items required at construction sites

  • Assist and work with tradespersons and other members of the construction team

  • Assist and work with heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities

  • Assist in aligning pipes and perform other related activities during underground utilities construction

  • Assist in excavation and backfill and other related activities during earthworks construction using shovels, rakes, plate tampers and other applicable tools

  • Checks slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers

  • Remove rubble and debris to maintain and clean and safe working environment

  • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers as directed

  • Operate and maintain machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps

  • May perform other related duties as required

    Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in a construction environment or in a similar role

  • Familiar with construction terms and practices

  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills

  • Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions

  • Adheres to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standard assessments

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
