Product Engineer - Full-time - Wallingford (CT), United States

Sulzerhas an immediate opening for a Product Engineer at the Wallingford, CT facility. The position will have a primary focus on product related engineering design and technical assistance to applications engineering, sales, service, factory, and marketing teams for all municipal water and wastewater products and accessories. This position works closely with these teams to provide accurate and on time support.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Design standard/customized products, accessories, and solutions in support of special applications, aftermarket applications, retrofits, and warranty issues.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of all products and accessories including sales literature, brochures, training materials, specifications, drawings, and manuals.

  • Provide technical support of submersible pumps/mixers/aerators, control & monitoring devices, and accessories to applications engineering, sales, service, factory, and marketing teams.

  • Develop, maintain, and work within a streamlined and standardized data management system for organizing, controlling, and accessing all documentation.

  • Use the ERP system to create and enter technical data in support of order entry, procurement, and manufacturing.

  • Develop and maintain engineering tools for use by internal and external functions.

  • Research third-party products for use as ancillary and accessory solutions.

  • Gain and leverage knowledge of legacy and competitor’s products to facilitate replacement opportunities.

  • Interface with Engineering, Sales, and Product Management to provide local focus and support, solve technical problems, identify opportunities to improve products and reduce costs, and support general product development efforts, including modeling and testing.

  • Manage multiple projects meeting specified timelines and deliverables.

  • Assist in costing/pricing data for newly developed or unpublished products/accessories for the local market.

  • Follows procedures in accordance with ISO 9001.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • B.S. in Engineering (mechanical preferred), or equivalent. Significant directly related experience considered in lieu of degree.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.

  • Positive attitude and team player.

  • Experience working in related fields, preferably with an equipment manufacturer.

  • Technical knowledge of pumps, pumping systems, rotating equipment, mechanical design, and basic control systems.

  • Broad understanding of National and International specifications/standards/codes (ASTM, ANSI, AISI, ASME, ISO, DIN, NEMA, NEC, IEC, etc.) and fabrication standards/design concepts/procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work individually, as part of a team, and with customers.

  • Proficiency in the complete MS Office Suite, including MS Project, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, Solid Works/Inventor/Siemens NX; other computer programs such as design & graphics software a plus.
